Bristol Old Vic To Be Debated in Commons

Stephen Williams MP yesterday tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in an attempt to gain support from the House of Commons to save The Bristol Old Vic. This was done in preparation for a public meeting on Thursday, which is to take place at the historic theatre.

The Early Day Motion read as follows:

"That this House is concerned for the future of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre, which was closed suddenly in August 2007, believes that such a fine producing theatre, which has been entertaining Bristol audiences since 1766, should have its future secured so that people from around the West Country and beyond can continue to enjoy its in-house as well as touring productions; and calls upon Arts Council England to commit continued financial support to the Bristol Old Vic, thereby ensuring the preservation of thriving regional theatre."

The issue has gained cross-part support, with Steve Webb MP, Doug Naysmith MP and Roger Berry MP all co-signing.

The public meeting will take place on Thursday 10th January, starting at 6pm.
